Investigative Services
Forensic Medical Exams – Medical diagnosis, evaluation and nursing assessments are provided by the University of Florida Child Protection Team, who are experts in their field, to supplement the investigative activities in reported cases of child abuse.
Forensic Interviews – Provided through our partnership with the University of Florida Child Protection Team, these evidence-gathering interviews are conducted by specially trained interviewers utilizing audio and video recording equipment in our warm, comfortable interview rooms.
Child Advocacy
Victim-centered advocacy support services are provided by individuals specially trained in child maltreatment and the provision of victim services. The advocates provide services which may include: crisis intervention, forensic interviews, needs assessment, court accompaniment, system navigation assistance, and resource coordination to ensure a consistent, comprehensive, and effective network of support for the child and family.
Trauma-Focused Therapy
Evidence-based therapy is provided by licensed clinicians with specialized training in child maltreatment and trauma reactions. Each child’s treatment is provided according to his or her individual emotional, psychological and developmental needs. Individual, family, and group therapy treatments are provided to children and their family members using a variety of treatment methods, such as: Art Therapy, Play Therapy, Psychoeducational Activities, Sand Tray and Gardening.
Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) Case Review
The collaboration of professionals from specific, distinct disciplines on cases involving child maltreatment is the foundation of the Children’s Advocacy Center model. Jessie’s Place serves as the inter-agency coordinated response center hosting case review meetings where MDT members contribute their knowledge, experience, and expertise. The coordinated MDT approach facilitates efficient communication and information sharing, ongoing involvement of key individuals, and support for children and facilities.
Prevention
Child Safety Matters and Teen Safety Matters are comprehensive, evidence informed prevention education programs developed with Florida schools to provide age-appropriate curriculum for grades K-12. Our trained facilitators present lessons to educate students and adults about bullying, abuse, healthy relationships, human trafficking and online predatory dangers.
Community Education
Discussing and learning the facts of childhood abuse helps prevent Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs). Awareness and educational presentations are provided by Jessie’s Place to increase community members’ knowledge of child maltreatment issues that affect children every day in Citrus County and around the world. Specialized training on topics inclusive of child abuse and neglect, human trafficking, and trauma and resilience are provided to community groups, organizations, and professional associations.
